Emily Dickinson’s “Hope Is the Thing with Feathers” uses a bird as a metaphor for the hope that lives within our soul. Woody Allen titled one of his books Without Feathers. He was obviously referring to Dickinson’s poem to signal an ironic absence of hope in his stories.
