Neruda Can Keep His Socks
There’s more to comfort than socks

Neruda can keep his socks.
I wouldn’t swap them
for my thick gray robe.
I’m in a womb,
wrapped in cocoon.
I walk outdoors
and grin at stars
before life stirs
and no one knows.
I feel no chill,
the morning’s grand.
I just can’t stand
to take it off,
then shower and dress.
But daylight calls.
